Frances Okala is an Architect by profession and an Artist by inspiration. She hails from Onitsha in Anambra State in Nigeria. She attended Queen’s College, Yaba-Lagos and went on to study Architecture at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife where she obtained a Bachelors degree and also a Masters degree in the same discipline.
Up until three years ago she was in the construction industry and she decided to take the plunge and pursue her career in Art, her first love. She uses mainly pen and ink on a black and white or multicolour composition. She creates patterns and uses them to define the forms and shapes in her compositions. Her concepts are mainly African and she is influenced a lot by traditional motifs and patterns.
She has participated in 3 group exhibitions namely Ribbon in April 2, the Eko Art Expo to commemorate Lagos at 50 and Sisters-The Art of Nigerian Women.
