Description
Elizabeth Chioma Ekpetorson is a painter and draughtswoman who was born in 1991 in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State in Nigeria. She holds a Painting degree from the University of Port-Harcourt and had her industrial training at the Universal Studios of Art, under the tutelage of Masters Abiodun Olaku, Joshua Nmesirionye amongst others. She draws her influence from various artists including Masters Olusegun Adejumo, Edosa Ogiugo, Ejoh Wallace amongst others.
Her figurative work body is about self-acceptance, women, and other subject matters catalysed by swift response to creative impulses on human issues. My experiences in life informs my artistic practice in the same way the art in itself continues to have tremendous influence over my existence. In rendering my compositions, I employ human forms as muse, thereby harnessing my feelings, conjuring memories and putting a stamp on the feeling resident in my work.
In her work, she seeks to draw attention to self-acceptance: embracing one’s self
unconditionally, without fear or exception. A large portion of her story is dedicated to
women, she paints for the shamed or silenced select of them, untangling their limitations and emboldening them via art. Ultimately, her art is about humanity: let every human breathe and be recklessly free. She hopes each viewer lets go of prejudices based on the exterior, excavate into the distinct characteristic of each entity, animate or inanimate.
She currently resides and works as a full time studio artist in Lagos.
