I began painting recently and have become focused on documenting New York in its elements. Cabs are so New York, most are yellow so I rushed to photograph this green cab in Harlem so I could paint it. This collection is inspired by the idea of a first visit to New York City in present day with admiration to the many who immigrated through Ellis Island and the collection of their varied experiences seeing New York for the first time.

 Renata Dolezal grew up on the shores of the Adriatic sea in Crotia with roots from the Czech Republic. As a teenage, she immigrated to the United States without friends and family, she adapted to a new culture. Renata currently resides in both Los Angeles and New York City, spending time with her children and grandchildren on both coasts. While art has always been a part of her life, she took to the brush during the pandemic creating pieces reflective of her travels and experiences. Her favorite art medium is acrylic on paper or canvas utilizing bright bold colors.
