Roscoe Reid Masters is a visual artist from Cape Town in South Africa who has graduated from Ruth Prowse School of Art in 2009. He was part a crew called 3:16; they did outreach projects in challenged communities and have done some successful group murals in Hanover Park and Bridgetown. His work was also chosen for Standard Bank Exhibition in 2007. He also sold work to private collector in 2008, donated a work to charity auction hosted by Standard bank in 2008. He did a big solo mural for a baking business in his community in 2008. He made it to the finals in a mosaic competition for a Dream centre in Hermanus in 2008. He had his first group exhibition at 38 Special Art Café in Cape Town, the show was called (Sticks and Stones) in 2009. He had an art studio at Good Hope Art Studio at the Castle.
He was commissioned by Sanlam Innovation Awards 2009 and sold some work to private collector 2009. He has donated artwork to a Charity for disabled kids and came 2nd in the Charity Competition for disabled kids. And the work was exhibited for auction at the VEO Gallery in Green point 2009. He has completed 18 Bus Shelters in southern suburbs community for the 2010 world cup. He also donated work for mirror art project for the Home expo at convention centre for a charity auction. He was part of the 2010 Thupelo Workshop at Greatmore Studios.
Roscoe was a facilitator running a printing making workshop on Robben Island for the Spring School program in 2010. He has donated an artwork to be auctioned for SA Medical Aid; to raise funds for aids victims in 2010. He was also part of a Group Exhibition called (Catch 2010) with some big names in the art world. Also in 2010, he had a solo mural in a private home in Plumstead. In 2011, he had his first solo exhibition at Rococo Studio Gallery called (Expression Session). He had a solo exhibition at No Name Attached Boutique. He has sold Artwork to a Law Firm in 2011 and a couple of private commissions for friends and colleagues.
He also did two huge communities group murals in 2011 in Atlantis 20 meters long and also two stories high community group mural at Ottery Sports Civic Centre; it was 6 meters high and 20 meters long. In 2011, he completed a big solo mural at Mannenberg Library. He is also lecturing once a week at CPUT Dental Department teaching the dental students to draw the anatomy of the teeth. In 2012, he collaborated with an art organization called COG; and completed mural for a Cerbil Paulse home in Khayelitsha.
He managed an Art Shop at Ruth Prowse School for 2 years. In 2013,he did his Post Graduate Certificate Education at UCT, had a Solo Exhibition at True Italic Art Café, and did a collaborative Mural 2m x 8m at Langa Stadium. In 2014, he did a painting & spray painting workshop with established fine artist Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi and contemporary artist Khaya Witbooi and had a group exhibition with the art produced at Greatmore studios. He had his two learners from Sea Point High School won the main prizes in a Nation Wide competition with Pharrell Williams and Woolworths to create a T-shirt to promote sustainability in Modern Society.
He is currently teaching full time Visual Art/Design at Sea Point High School and creating art from his home in Diep River.
