Joseph Idowu, HOW DO YOU SEE ME 1, 2021, 24x30inches.
I have diligently worked into these pieces using blow torch to burn the surface of the board and scratch with knife and sand paper. A technique called Pyro painting. I intentionally use colors to create the focal point. The silhouette head highlight the anatomical proportion of the head relative to the child’s body. It is also an invitation into that body to imagine and experience the lives of my sitters. M process of using fire to transform objects compliment my belief system that we can recreate our lives. We can bring beauty out of seemingly ugly situations.
