Jasmine, 2019, Acrylic on Canvas, 26x 32 inches
Jasmine is a painting based on a photograph that was taken by her mother. I saw the photograph and was inspired to do a painting of this beautiful little girl who I call my niece. Since she had held herself up by holding onto the corner of the wall I wanted to capture that having her hand holding onto the edge of the painting.
Fedrecia Hartley is a Brooklyn born Bedford-Stuyvesant artist. Her work is mainly mixed-media and figurative acrylic painting. She received her MA in Studio Art from New York University. She opened Zion Gallery on the garden level of her home to showcase art of local artists. The gallery officially closed in December of 2019 so that she could focus on creating art full-time. She has raised funds for Chinesou Bakari by pairing artists with community leaders and auctioning off the art at an event called Painting it Forward. Hartley was the Director of Zion Gallery and President and Co-founder of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Artists’ Association (BeSAA).
