Odun Orimolade explores the juxtaposing forces of cultural paradigms and their interconnecting frameworks, experimenting in painting, drawing, installation and performance. Her work examines the dualities of African and Western belief systems and questions how the tangible and intangible overlap to illuminate the space of the unknown.Orimolade combines the figurative and the abstract as she looks at the synergy, dialectic, and relation between opposing levels of consciousness.
Odun Orimolade obtained her Bachelors of Arts from the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, concentrating in painting. She subsequently obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Visual Art and her Master’s Degree from the University of South Africa, Pretoria.
Orimolade is a lecturer at the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, in the School of Art, Design and Printing. Orimolade has received numerous awards, including the Conrad Theys Busary Award, the Professor Y.A. Grillo Award, the Jermomelaiho Award, and the Fasisui Art Prize.
