Me Too by MLJ Johnson, 2000, Oil on Board, 48 x 52 inches
A native of Washington, D.C., MLJ Johnson was born in 1947 and grew up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. As an artist, exhibition coordinator, educator, and art consultant, Johnson states that: “Art, being a universal language, is used as a form of visual communication, morphing words into images and pictograms of life’s phenomenon. With a very direct and minimal design, my art demands the viewer’s response, which is more personal than just looking at a painting.” Johnson is listed as an artist and educator in the “Who’s Who in American Art” and “Who’s Who of African Americans” directories. His work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Puerto Rico and South Africa.
