Patti Brown by Dindga McCannon, Mixed Media, 29 x 32 inches
Work is on loan for this exhibition.
“I met Ms. Brown on my first trip out of America in ’71. She was a master pianist, as well as a composer and played with many of the great jazz musicians of the 70s, 80s including Quincy Jones. I feel because she was a woman in a man’s world – she never got the recognition she deserved. The fact that she spoke her mind and didn’t take no crap didn’t exactly endear her to the powers that be, back then.”
Dindga McCannon celebrates over 50 years of being an artist; she pursued art as a fiber artist, writer/illustrator, painter, costume designer, muralist, and much more. Her fusion of traditional needle work – a skill given to her by her mother and grandmother – with fine arts, she includes drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media in her works, experimenting or exploring between the “what if” and “what might happen.”
