Protector of the Sacred Heart by Deborah Singletary, 2021, Gouache on Paper, 5 x 7 inches (framed)
“With a child’s heart/ You’ve got no reason to frown/ Love is as welcome/ As a sunny, sunny day/ No grown-up thoughts/ To lead our hearts astray’ (Lyrics by Stevie Wonder) – The true heart we were born with lives within protected and accessible.”
Deborah Singletary is a contemporary urban folk artist whose work has appeared in The New Yorker and New Woman magazines, The New York Daily News, Painting from the Source (Harper Collins), Making What Your Means Can’t Buy (Vision Carriers Press), and several other publications. Singletary utilizes her passion and artistry as an interfaith minister and pierces the veil that separates us from our true selves as expressed in her work. As a facilitator and instructor for make-art workshops, she uses the art-making process to help people get in touch with their inner wisdom and courage by creating word wands, sacred vessels, spirit guides, and red shoes. She states: “For me, making art is a spiritual path and being an artist is living a love story.”
