Michelle Okpare is an expressionist artist, born in Lagos, Nigeria and bred in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. I hail from Ughelli-North, Delta State in Nigeria. She studied Fine & Applied Arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, where I majored in Painting. She had industrial training at the Universal Studios of Arts, National Theatre; Simple Plan Studio under Wallace Ejoh; and Patrick Akpojotor Studios in Lagos.
She is a colorist and expressionist artist who works across paintings, mixed media, and crafts. She loves to explore diverse forms of material like crêpe paper, lace material and many others. She focuses on mostly human figures, as a view to speak on issues connecting to them and celebrating the human race. She believes that “artworks” must not only be seen as an object of aesthetic values but of functionality and as an embodiment of the artist’s character reflected through his/her style, technique and medium.
