Artist Bio:
Davies Ben, was Born 29 November, Davies Hails from Dagema Local Government Area, River State, Nigeria. My love for art started at a tender age when drawing was a thing I enjoyed doing, even when I was being beaten for it. I got more interested in art years later when I worked as a studio assistant and got more inspired to study art at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and graduated as a painter. Being a painter have been a raft that help me climb to my saneness, and as an artist, I’ve enjoyed the liberty to express my thoughts, emotions and feelings on a surface so everyone can actually take part of it. Also art have always been my loyal companion, giving me relief in times of distress and loneliness. As an artist, I’ve enjoyed the liberty to express my thoughts, emotions, and feelings on a surface in a way that invites my audience to take part in my body of works. My works are primarily semi-abstracted, where I use symbolic West African fabrics fused with a modern contemporary methodology to create figures and portraitures. Certain patterns and motifs present in these fabrics are used to communicate in an African traditional way. My painting intends to capture the day’s activities surrounding us, giving us hope as well as highlighting the positive and negative aspects of our society.
