The Amref Health Africa ArtBall is a premier contemporary African art auction and philanthropic event being held Spring 2017 in New York City. Legendary artist El Anatsui will be honored this year with the Rees Visionary Award. The event will consist of a silent auction which will launch online on ArtSpace two weeks prior to the event, a special live auction, an award ceremony, entertainment, and food and open bar.
ArtBall 2016 was the inaugural year, and was highly acclaimed and successful. Over 300 attendees bought thirty pieces of art, with 50 host committee members, including highly regarded names across art, fashion, entertainment and media. Wangechi Mutu, the night’s honoree, was honored to have been celebrated, receive the Rees Humanitarian Award, and to be presented with an education scholarship fund in her name to send 35 Kenyan girls who have escaped FGM to school.
The 2017 Amref Health Africa Artball Planning Session has begun. The curator, Atim Annnette Oton is currently soliciting African Artists interested in donating artwork and art pieces in search of 50 African Artists for the Art Auction. The theme of work selected will revolve around the notion of African Health, Women, Children and African Journeys.
