Malandela Zulu is a Mixed Media Artist who specializes in African Art known for healing the heart, body, and soul. Zulu uses various mediums to create his pieces, knowing no limitations to what materials can be used to create his art. The Washington, DC native enjoys printmaking, drawing, painting, photography, and ceramics, tapping into a spiritual well-spring that many people ignore or cannot see. “Art is spirit made flesh,” he says, “and each piece speaks to someone’s spirit.” Zulu believes that art makes the person, the person doesn’t make the art. Zulu has traveled to Ghana and East Africa, Brazil, and the Caribbean, visiting museums, art galleries, and art shows along the way. He credits those varied experiences as having influenced him and molding his personal vision and perspective as well as the manner in which he embraces, expresses, and interprets African art. He also cites artists Mama Sala Damali, Kofi Tyus, Professor Pointer, and Howard University professor Gibson Hunter as his primary artistic influences.
