Bipolar disorder is a mental health problem in Africa. Scientific findings on bipolar disorder from Africa are consistent with the existing literature from other parts of the world. There still exists a dearth of high quality studies addressing epidemiological, clinical, social and economic burden of the disorder .This mixed media series depicts the faces of people with this disorder.
Winfred Nana Amoah (1996, Hohoe, Ghana) is a Hohoe based artist whose media of practice includes plastics, textiles, used credit cards, research articles, newspapers and acrylic on canvas. Amoah uses these materials to explore personal identities and community belonging, particularly in the contemporary Ghanaian context. His work has been documented at the Nubuke Foundation and is on Google Art and Culture. See video here.
