Esther Obiwuru is a Lagos-based Nigerian artist whose vibrant and evocative paintings capture the essence of African life and culture. Born and raised in Lagos, Esther’s artistic journey began when she pursued a degree in Art and Industrial Design at the Lagos State Polytechnic. During her studies, she honed her skills through industrial training at the renowned Universal Studios of Art in Lagos, which profoundly influenced her development as an artist. Esther draws inspiration from her surroundings, childhood memories, and the rich tapestry of African beauty and tradition. Her work seamlessly blends modern and traditional elements, reflecting the dynamic nature of contemporary African identity. She believes that art is a powerful medium for expression and aims to convey messages of hope, resilience, and self-worth. As she states, “My work is created to express my inner feelings; I want people to see hope in hopeless situations and recognize their dignity.”
Throughout her career, Esther has participated in several group exhibitions, showcasing her evolving style and dedication to her craft. Her paintings celebrate black existence, emphasizing elegance and strength through lifelike imagery, vibrant colors, and intricate details.
